94 degrees in the shade and sticky, yuk, awful. I guess summer has arrived and just a wee bit sooner than our normal rains. It is very nearly too hot to be outside yet, everything I need to be doing is out there...
My 'to-do' list reads like a who's who list on a DIY show. I could handle the whole season, perhaps two. My list seems to grow faster than leaps and bounds and quicker than speeding bullets. Superman I ain't so, the list continues to grow and I continue to have excuses. The most recent of course is the temperature. Being out in my backyard is akin to walking on the surface of the sun. Surrounded by the dead and dying I can survey my yard and hear the cash register ringing up new plants. ANY plant that says 'full sun' doesn't mean full sun in my backyard. The plants need umbrellas or some serious sun screen or they just won't make it. They would make it if I watered heavily, daily, but, I refuse to use that much water. I will accept the wilted, dead and dying and hope for rain.
I have ventured out twice so far, both times armed with ambition that wilted instantly with the heat. An all wire aviary to replace the mostly wood and wire one that is currently in use, is started. Started in this case means I have completed one panel and need 5 more. The fountain, home to massive frog orgies has been dumped, cleaned, refitted, and is back in use. That wasn't so bad, I was playing in the water. The hurricane panel slated for the south window remains in the shop while I contemplate cooler times, inside. The luan ply for the upcoming pirogue is in the shop waiting on me. I figure as long as I can cook pizza on my tablesaw, I won't be spending much time in the shop.
Did I mention it is hot?
