Well....WOW. If you've ever considered jumping into the world of Linux and eventually making the break from Windooz, now could be the time.
Downloading your copy isn't real quick but you can get it HERE Burn your own CD and pop it in an old machine then follow the prompts, answer the questions, and soon you will be booting into your very own Linux system.
The machine I installed to is a composite of several old machines. The install went without a hitch. I use the Gnome desktop and find I can get around pretty well since much of this is already familiar. I use Firefox for a browser so, no big deal there. The install found my network and configured everything for me, I removed the CD at the prompt, booted into my new system and commenced playing with it. No pain, no headaches, just worked. Go ahead, give it a try!
