Yes, it is the wrong time of year to trim hedges but I have ignored mine to the point that I can no longer see the yard, only hedge. I got out there with gusto, which lasted about half an hour. The gusto carried me through one small 6 foot or so stretch of hedge. Fortunately for me, that was all I had left from the day before.
I use electric hedge trimmers. It's not that I like dragging an electric cord through wet grass, or I am overly concerned about my neighbors and beauty rest, regardless of how bad they need it. I use electric trimmers because they are cheaper than gas ones. I have an inner fear that if I bought gas trimmers I would wind up trimming every bush and hedge in the entire neighborhood, unasked. Obviously, if i followed this course of action I would no doubt wind up in jail. How would YOU feel if one of your deranged neighbors attacked YOUR shrubs with a gas trimmer? The problem stems from the fact that I enjoy trimming hedges. It is very satisfying to reclaim scraggly growth into nice, shaped, even cuts. Perhaps it is a warped version of hair envy. I like trimming things since I have no hair? Doesn't matter, whatever the reason, I enjoy trimming my hedges and the extension cord keeps me tethered to the confines of my own yard. A gas trimmer would allow me to wander in search of unkempt shrubs until I ran out of fuel or the law caught me. So, you see, by using the electric trimmers, I satisfy my need to trim AND stay out of jail by avoiding wanton butchery of neighboring shrubs. It is a good thing. Enjoy your weekend, what ever you are doing!!!!!!!!!
