Hunting Camp

To hunters, the term "hunting camp" triggers fond memories and high expectations. It is a term surrounded by good thoughts unless it has just been applied to the motor home you bought. Even then, if it is being used by fellow hunters, it isn't bad. The problem begins when it is applied by your smarter half and you know EXACTLY what she means...

The best intentions go downhill fast when your significant other dubs your latest pride and joy a hunting camp. In those two words you know it has been classified one step above a heap, and WAY below anything acceptable. It does not matter what everybody else thinks or says about it. The new toy has now been declared a disaster. All the grand plans are wafting their way out the window. The idea of camping excursions into the big unknown is history. It is doubtful they will ever be persuaded to step foot inside it again. In just two words, the writing is on the wall and it is saying, "You have made a REALLY BIG mistake. What on earth are you going to do with it now?" These things happen. After all these years I have come to accept the inevitable, I am wrong. My significant other considers camping as something you do at Holiday Inn. Tents are nightmares and other camping vehicles, powered or otherwise are just bad dreams. The joys of camping don't appeal to her sensibilities. This falls in line with her logic that boats are just holes in the water that you throw money into. RV's and similar are holes in the road that you pour money into. Over time, I have evolved into a bottomless pit that devours money at an alarming rate, usually involving boats, cars, trucks,RV's, guns, tools, and occasional computers thrown in. Eventually I might grow out of this but I doubt it. Oh well, Hunting Camp, it is.
