Isn't it funny

Permalink 08:47:26 am, Categories: News and Opinions

Yesterday I watched a show on an industrial air scrubber designed to clean the air of carbon dioxide, the main cause of global warming. The show was fascinating, the scrubber worked and presented only two downsides. The first was how to make money with it since nobody is all that interested in giving away money for a cleaner environment. The other was people knowing there might be a fix for the problem, reduces their incentive to reduce the amount being generated.

Fall is in the air

Permalink 09:16:18 am, Categories: News and Opinions

Yes, even here in Florida we get a touch of fall. Mind you, we get ours in installments, much like our winter. Walking outside this morning it was refreshingly cool. The cool will be short lived but, cool, just the same.

Radical Islam

Permalink 10:43:38 am, Categories: News and Opinions

Watching the American flag being burned is downright infuriating. Watching it being burned and trampled by folks here at home is NOT acceptable. Allowing our enemies to live here, knowing full well who they are by their actions is ludicrous. Are we so naive to not realize we are at war with radical Islam? Have we allowed ourselves to be lulled into believing that if we ignore it all, it will just go away? In our politically correct posturing, we have forgotten our obligation to protect our country from outside threats and those from within. Freedom of religion is a wonderful thing until it becomes a fanatical obsession with our destruction as its only goal. How long will it take for us to finally say, "ENOUGH"?

A write in candidate...

Permalink 08:43:34 am, Categories: News and Opinions

I got this in my email. I can only wish it were true.

I HAVE DECIDED TO BECOME A WRITE-IN CANDIDATE.

HERE IS MY PLATFORM:

(1) 'Press 1 for English' is immediately banned. English is the official language; speak it or wait at the border until you can.

(2) We will immediately go into a two year isolationist posture to straighten out the country's attitude. NO imports, no exports. We will use the 'Wal-Mart' policy, 'If we ain't got it, you don't need it.'

(3) When imports are allowed, there will be a 100% import tax on it.

(4) All retired military personnel will be required to man one of our many observation towers on the southern border. (six month tour) They will be under strict orders not to fire on SOUTHBOUND aliens.

(5) Social security will immediately return to its original state. If you didn't put nuttin' in, you ain't gettin nuttin' out. The president nor any other politician will not be able to touch it.

(6) Welfare - Checks will be handed out on Fridays at the end of the 40 hour school week and the successful completion of urinalysis and a passing grade.

(7) Professional Athletes --Steroids - The FIRST time you check positive you're banned for life.

(8) Crime - We will adopt the Turkish method, the first time you steal, you lose your right hand. There are no more life sentences. If convicted, you will be put to death by the same method you chose for your victim: gun, knife, strangulation, etc.

(9) One export will be allowed: Wheat. The world needs to eat. A bushel of wheat will be the exact price of a barrel of oil.

(10) All foreign aid using American taxpayer money will immediately cease and the saved money will pay off the national debt and ultimately lower taxes. When disasters occur around the world, we'll ask the American people if they want to donate to a disaster fund and each citizen can make the decision whether it's a worthy cause.

(11) The Pledge of Allegiance will be said every day at school and every day in Congress.

(12) The National Anthem will be played at all appropriate ceremonies, sporting events, outings, etc.

Sorry if I stepped on anyone's toes but a vote for me will get you better than what you have and better than what you're gonna get. Thanks for listening and remember to write in my name on the ballot in November.
God Bless America !!!!!!!!!!!

NEXT time, customer relations

Permalink 11:25:58 am, Categories: News and Opinions

Wasting a considerable amount of time wading through automated phone systems, I got a real live person who informed me the system was down and I had to call back. OK. I am already not a happy camper since my refrigerator is broke. You know, the one that got fixed last week. The one with the very unprofessional repair person who struggled with English and didn't have enough tools so he borrowed some of mine. No, I was NOT impressed. No parts were replaced. A mess was made as he defrosted the self defrosting model and called it fixed.

The wonders of technology

Permalink 09:02:22 am, Categories: News and Opinions

Via the Internet, you can find the information about, and learn how, on nearly everything you've ever wanted to know. A wee bit of time searching can net results on anything you can think of and a lot that you never wanted to know. How is it, with all this information available, we still have people who cannot read or do basic math?

Gas Gouging

Permalink 04:20:44 pm, Categories: News and Opinions

The price of gas is bad enough then we have to compound it by ALLOWING the price gouging that is going on. A predicted ten to twenty cent increase at the pump based on hurricane damage became twice that and more, WITHOUT significant hurricane influence. I like to make a profit as good as anybody but I don't gouge my way into a killing!

Wood clamps

Permalink 02:42:41 pm, Categories: News and Opinions

No woodworking shop has enough clamps. Even when you think you have enough, you will start a project that requires more. Abusing clamps is easy to do and you probably do it without thinking. Somewhere in the back of your mind, you need to realize, clamps can, and will, break. Rest assured, they will break at the most inopportune moment, right when you need them the most. They won't halfway break, they will do it right and completely break. Of course you will say, "Oh darn..." ya, right.

Pull your pants up!

Permalink 10:46:21 am, Categories: News and Opinions

What possible reason could you have to wear pants below your butt? You walk slew footed to keep them from totally falling off which must be uncomfortable. If you really want everybody to see your underwear, just wear that and leave the pants at home. I can't imagine purposely wearing pants that I had to hold up. I fail to see a 'style' involved here, it just looks like foolishness to me. Of course, I don't understand the beyond too loud music in the cars and trucks either. The reasoning for all my not understanding is very simple, I am old school. Not only am I old school, I am PROUD of it.

What happened to service?

Permalink 05:41:18 pm, Categories: News and Opinions

Once upon a time, on a planet closer than you realize, service that punctual and really service, existed. Back in those nearly forgotten days, the TV repair folks were dressed neat, they had the tools they needed with them, and they cleaned up any mess they made. Appliance repair folks did the same as did any other service based business. They wanted to project a professional appearance and made sure their employees did the same. Appointments were made, and kept. A phone call would advise you if they were going to be late, even by a few minutes. What happened?

All our eggs in the petroleum basket?

Permalink 12:35:04 pm, Categories: News and Opinions

We consistently demonstrate we aren't too smart. We KNEW, years ago, that petroleum would not last forever. We KNEW the price of crude would ultimately bite us in the backside. We KNEW our vehicles needed to be powered by something else or get fabulous mileage. Instead of making the changes, we stuck our heads in the sand and hoped the problems would all go away. Guess what? The problems didn't go away and are here to stay.

Is the end near?

Permalink 09:35:51 am, Categories: News and Opinions

The answer to that is a definite, 'maybe'. Stop and think, we are doing all we can to spell our own doom and have been doing so since the beginning. Do we really have any right to think otherwise? WE have exploited the planet, polluted the water, and changed the global temps, WE, as always, are our own worst enemies. When we aren't destroying the planet we are busy destroying each other, the end is indeed inevitable. Being inevitable doesn't mean tomorrow or in three weeks when the hadron collider gets up to speed but then again, we do not know when the end will be, we just know it WILL happen.

MRI's or adventures in self abuse

Permalink 04:44:37 pm, Categories: News and Opinions

If I am dying and no longer coherent enough to say 'no' I will get another MRI in a small tube. Those of us with more robust builds have no business trying to wedge our bulk into a small MRI. You know you are in trouble when the table moves to run you in and you scrape on the way in. The space is close, even for those not normally prone to claustrophobia. Prior to my encounter with this too small device I spent my time in a small room with several other gents, all in hospital gowns. Not a pretty sight. Old and older, some with just their socks but most still in socks and shoes, and of course, the gown. I don't believe I will ever adapt to men in gowns. Kilts, OK, I can deal with that, gowns, nope, too tacky.

Murdered mailbox

Permalink 10:20:57 am, Categories: News and Opinions

Returning from a working mini-vacation, I was greeted by no mailboxes. Normally there are three boxes in a row, mine being one of them. Instead of mailboxes there were broken stubs of posts and tire tracks. Somebody ran them down. The tracks made it pretty obvious that this was intentional. Somebody went out of their way to murder three mailboxes sitting quietly by the road. Those mailboxes have been there for years. They have never done anybody any harm. They just stood there, waiting for deliveries.

Private Property, No Trespassing

Permalink 10:59:57 am, Categories: News and Opinions

Yup, this weekend I will be posting those signs on 11 acres of pines. I expect them to keep the honest people off property they don't belong on. That will last exactly as long as the signs do since I expect them to be shot full of holes by idiots. Yes, there are some people carrying guns that have no business with them. They never learned to respect other folk's rights and seem to believe that having a gun gives them the right to shoot holes in anything they happen to find. Signs are a prime target for them and it doesn't matter what the sign is.

TV and advertising

Permalink 10:19:22 am, Categories: News and Opinions

I pay for my TV shows and I pay a good buck for them, just like everybody else. What I don't understand is why I have to see commercials? I am already PAYING for the show, I shouldn't have to watch the commercials! Some commercials are OK and I can deal with them, other commercials are so stupid they make me crazy. Since I am already paying for the privilege of TV, I shouldn't have to watch the commercials.
