OK, so some of us might be a wee bit shy of a full deck, and some of us are content to play with the empty box. I am seriously considering a pair of snakeproof boots just to feel a bit more comfortable walking around in the woods. NO, I'm not afraid of snakes, I just don't want to get bit by one. Yes, perhaps this is overkill and then again, perhaps not.

During hunting season I hunt alone quite often. Even when I go with a friend, we tend to go our separate ways. I cover a lot of ground in the woods and if I were to get bit back in there, I would rather it happen on something that was snakeproof. The other side of this coin is timberland in Georgia is notorious for it's snakes and I expect to be doing a good bit of walking around in just that kind of area. Having seen some of the Georgia rattlesnakes, I am 100% positive I would rather them hit a boot meant to stop penetration rather than otherwise. This does NOT mean I intend to go find a rattlesnake and stomp him just to see if the boots really work. It DOES mean I am thinking about being safe in an area known to house some danger. Since I don't hear all the well any more, I'm not sure I would hear the rattle and be able to respond in time. To me, the boots make good sense. I figure I can wear them when hunting here in Florida and when I go to Georgia, I will wear them while checking my timber. To me, planning ahead and planning to be safe, just makes good sense. The same principle as buying life insurance where YOU bet you are going to die and the insurance company bets you are going to live longer than you think. I am betting I will encounter a snake that bites, the boots stack the odds more in my favor. Of course, if I am wrong, the boots look good too!
