Cool It: The Skeptical Environmentalist's Guide to Global Warming by Bjørn Lomborg
OK, it is pretty safe to say that most folks agree that the climate IS warming, and odds are good WE are responsible. Yes, we like our cars and conveniences and we are hardpressed to give them up. Of course that only applies to the more modern portions of the world. While we consider the ramifications of all the bad things we have done in the past that contributed to global warming, our less fortunate neighbors are just beginning.

[More:]

We can rant and rave about cutting down the rain forest and the ultimate consequences that will have on the human race. None of that amounts to a hill of beans to the poor guy out there with the saw seeing only survival with every tree cut. We won't mention the folks who he works for who only sees profit. ALL of the issues we tend to get our backs up over revolve around profit, and commercial demand. IF there was no demand, there would be no issues. In our so called evolution, we displaced common sense with greed. NO, you can't argue with that statement, it just happens that some of us are more greedy than others. It may be the greed of comfort, status, or profit, but we all have our dose of it. That super fast, sleek, comfortable, gas guzzler isn't going to go away as long as folks continue to buy them.

The HUGE houses at a gazillion dollars are still going to be built as long as somebody buys them. Designer clothes, shoes, whatever, will still be cranked out by under paid workers as long as there is a market. Perceived evils, are indeed our own creations and will be our downfall. Why not make a change? Eat a little less. Use less water. Walk some instead of driving. Why not shop at a thrift once in a while for a shirt or pair of pants? Back off on the got to be NEW and EXPENSIVE, and settle for functional. Even little changes can help!
