Going green...nah, just saving money

Alright, I want to see a show of hands...how many of you are still driving gas guzzlers? Do you REALLY need all that room/power/towing capacity? IF you need it, there is no hope for you, the gas bill will become astronomical and you'll just have to pay it.

[More:]

IF you don't need all the features of your gas guzzler, perhaps it is time to look at other vehicles. Downsizing my current behemoth by just a tiny bit, nothing extreme, I can save some 3 bucks every 25 miles. If I went really crazy and got some real gas sipper, that figure could go 9 bucks and up saved every 25 miles. Kinda makes ya think, don'tcha know. My current monster earned its keep ONE time since I bought it, hauling home a substantial pile of green cherry lumber. Green lumber, regardless of flavor, translates to HEAVY lumber. On this one occasion, my truck earned its keep. Other than that, I am paying dearly for the privilege of driving this beast. Stopping to consider a wide number of things, I fail to see me doing any more substantial hauling or anything similar that will warrant the horsepower in the future. Perhaps it is time to downscale a bit. With this thought in mind, spurred on by an article I read this morning where truckers are paying 4 bucks a gallon and considering going to work for Wally World, I might be smart to get into something that is a tad more frugal on gas consumption. Unfortunately, if I get too frugal, I lose the ability to haul much of anything, especially sheets of plywood. I have begun to look around, I can't say I am overly impressed considering the cost of vehicles, and most of them don't exactly get great mileage. I am however, actively considering what for me, is going green. After all the money I spend at the pump IS green!!!!
