Family, the tie that binds

You can pick your friends and that is a luxury. Family however, it just is what it is. The lucky ones have no black sheep oddities hiding in the closet. The almost lucky ones have the closet dwellers who only come out on occasion. The rest of us unfortunates have SHOULD be closet dwellers, running around in the open. The best you can say with a resigned sigh is, they are family.

[More:]

Tattoos are pretty much a given these days. Young and old, make and female, tattoos have arrived and aren't going anywhere, anytime soon. A thought some of the tattooees should consider when that hot tat of today has endured 20 or so years of living, expanding, and arriving at middle age. The hot tat is now a blob of unrecognizable inks and probably in a spot that is prominently displayed. 20 years of wrinkles running through it does nothing for its looks. None of us should be surprised when our family members arrive to wave their body art in our faces. After all, they are FAMILY. After several of these new tat viewings, the shock and awe factor will subside. It is replaced with a casual nod and perhaps accompanied with a 'that's nice' comment. Personally, I have founf no comment works best for me. OK, so the novelty of the tats no longer gets comments from us, then begins the piercings. I personally don't see any reason to adorn my person with metal objects suitable to hang clothes from. Some of the piercings I really don't understand as I just see them as a great way to get hurt. My luck, I would snag it on something and rip the sucker right out. Oh well, yes, they are FAMILY. After a while you will begin to adjust to the piercings, just like the tats. Yawn, oh yes, another chunk of metal to fill the newest hole in your skin. Realistically, you can only be shocked just so many times then it becomes boredom. Another piercing? Who cares. Finally, you will be presented with something that you just can't control a reaction. My own weak link is the nose ring. My mind screams DISGUSTING, my mouth says, I don't like it. Now instead of boogers in a nose, you have boogers on a ring. Sorry. That word FAMILY has been overworked. Do I KNOW you?
