It continually amazes me how some very smart people can be so dumb. Studying the black death from olden times is one thing. Trying to salvage the DNA from the bacteria that caused it is quite another. Knowing how many people died from it, why do we want it again?
OK, biological warfare comes to mind but the folks out harvesting bones from plaque victims don't really look the military mastermind type. These are ordinary people fooling around with traces of death that we THINK we understand. We weren't there. None of todays' labs existed and we did no studies. We are exploring a past where the deaths, in HUGE numbers was very real. This is kind of like stirring up a hornets nest with a stick. A very exciting thing to do but a really bad idea. Why is it we can't just leave well enough alone? Why not enlist all these brain tanks into something more useful than finding ways to kill us off or make us beautiful? Why not work on the diseases that face us today, kill us today, and leave the past killers, in the past? Suppose we stopped all negative science applications and applied these minds to the positive aspects for life and living, think of the breakthroughs that would happen! Instead, being human, we focus on ways to destroy each other. We're doing a pretty good job at that. The longterm prognosis, predicted by the Mayan Calendar, 2012, we are toast. I guess none of the rest of it matters. Myself, I want to enjoy my life, for as long as I have life. The past is the past and today, is all that matters.
