We are windooz, resistance is futile...

Permalink 09:54:52 am, Categories: News and Opinions

I fit somewhere in between computer user and geek. You know the place, I can do some things that make me look really smart then turn around and do something really stupid. Yup, we've all been there at some point. When I'm not complaining about windooz, I'm usually running it just fine. Occasionally, I get my back up when it takes control of my machine, usually when updating itself, and refuses to do so in a timely manner. Anything approaching an hour of updating is NOT timely in my mind. Yes, I am running that incredible, faster than a speeding tortoise, Vista and MOST of the time, I actually like it. However, I really don't like it running things in the background and playing with itself. It usually does this first thing in the morning when I am trying to check email and such. Even the old faithful standby of control-alt-delete has a hard time controlling it.

[More:]

I guess i am just funny that way but I LIKE to believe I am in control of my own machine. When windooz begins playing games in the background or whatever foolishness it is doing, I find it to be annoying and really messes with my head. If I didn't direct it to do something, I certainly don't expect whatever it IS doing to take priority over what I am doing. I can fully understand folks being a bit bent over the force feeding of Vista to us. I am still clinging to XP on my laptop and hope to do so for a good while longer. Yes, I have ventured into the geek world a few times with various flavors of Linux and I'm just not there yet. Ubuntu is really close to my ability level of computers but still allows me to get into serious trouble when I THINK I am doing just fine. For now, for me, windooz is the only game in town. I will endure it taking over my machine and doing whatever it does in the background. I won't like it but can do nothing about it. One day, perhaps in the very near future, I will find a flavor of Linux I can REALLY use and rest assured, I won't even take a look back as I flee from windooz. In all fairness, it has been good, it has been great, but more and more it is just a has been.
