Medical care, where will it stop?

Permalink 03:10:21 pm, Categories: News and Opinions

I spent my morning with my son. He was having a minor procedure, 15 minutes for the procedure, and hour before for prep and an hour after for recovery. Just to be nice, I'll round it up to 3 hours total. The bill works out to 1,833.00 per hour. OK, there are expenses involved and overhead but, THAT much?

It is no wonder that so many folks are taking their health care overseas, they can't afford to have it done here. For my son, a small cut, remove a couple left over surgical staples and some string left from previous surgeries flush it out good, a couple of stitches and slap a band aid on it. Could I do it? NO. Did it need to be done? YES. Was it worth the price? How do you put a price on health? It was needed, regardless of the costs, so the answer has to be YES. Reminds me of the cost of fuel, we are a captive audience and have no choice but to pay, and pay, and pay. BECAUSE we are a captive audience, we are not being offered alternatives for either one. Profit driven businesses are what makes the world go round but Damn, do they have to make THAT much? There are no easy answers or quick fixes. Those in the medical professions deserve their piece of the pie, I just don't think they should want it all. I feel pretty much the same about the gas companies. Record profits don't impress me when I'm taking out a mortgage for a fill up. Seems like a little common sense would go a long way in todays world.
