How low can you go is a good slogan for limbo, a horrible one for the economy. If you look at results for yesterday, it suggests that perhaps we have indeed found a bottom. I'm not sure it is the real bottom. We have entirely too many variables to contend with and any one of them could prolong the agony of our current economy. The only good point so far is the price of gas dropped.
Investors in the stock market have taken their lumps and seen portfolios crash, leaving them with little. The mass exodus from stocks left folks wondering where to put their money, what little they had left. Some folks believe this is it, the big one, the end of life as we know it. Nothing remains but doom and gloom. Balderdash! If you believe the world is ending, that's OK with me. Folks have historically gone on record many times about the end. I just don't think it is here yet. I am an optimist. I figure the world is simply realigning itself to the current mess we have made of it and will continue on, just a bit different. It would be easy to buy into the end of world thinking, considering what all is going on. It would be easy to just give up. No reason to plan, no reason to save money, no reason to do much of anything, just wait for the end. Sorry, that ain't me. If you DO give up, what will you do when you realize it really isn't over? No, I don't think giving up is my cup of tea. I think I will just keep plugging along like always. After all, TODAY, is the first day of the rest of my life!
