Well, some of us are going to be happy with the election results. Some of us are not going to be happy with the election results. Whoever wins is going to have their hands full of trying to sort out the mess we are in. Ok, that covers the big question, how about the rest of it?
It would make good sense to plan and plant a garden. It wouldn't be foolish to raise some chickens for eggs and meat. It would be real smart to sock away some cash for emergency use. Gee, all the things that made sense in the past...still makes perfect sense. Imagine that! What does it all mean? The answer to that is as basic as breathing, it is up to each and every one of us to look out for ourselves. To put it another way, look out for number one, then everyone/thing else. WE are responsible for ourselves. Counting on Uncle Sugar to feed and clothe us is ludicrous. Each of us has the ability to do something for ourselves, small or large, it all helps in the long run. Food is a basic for survival, just like water. We can grow food, we just don't bother. We can save water but we go along acting like it is a limitless supply. We need to wake up and begin taking accountability for ourselves, our needs, our must haves, LONG before we think about wants. Incomes for most of us aren't enough. It may be the income really isn't enough or it might be we are just too accustomed to having more. A good time for a hard reality check is now. The new car can wait. The new couch can wait a bit longer. The savings account should happen now. The new computer game is out of the question, right along with the new computer. It is time to tighten the proverbial belt, make a move towards a bit more self sufficiency and keep an eye on what is going on around us. The car makers in Detroit are experiencing a meltdown, they drug their feet about fuel economy and it has now bitten them in the butt. Expensive, gas guzzling luxury is out and they learned too late. Will they survive? Maybe. Electric rates continue to rise and it is costing us more to power our homes. Will we survive? Maybe. The times of plenty aren't gone, we've just become accustomed to consuming too much, too often. We can change and we will survive. If we don't change, we won't make it. The throw away world of today needs to be the one of yesterday. The world has changed so, we must change also. Conserve, repurpose, recycle.
