Once we get through today, we will know who we picked to run our country, good or bad, and we will get back to whatever our version of normal is. A lot less junk mail in the mailbox, news shows that don't mention candidates and polls. We get to sit back, cross our fingers and hope whoever won can fix the mess we are in.
We will have a couple of years before all this madness begins again. The issues will be more or less the same, the candidates probably won't be any better or worse than before. The campaigning will be the same, low key to begin with then verbal attacks to finish up with. All the normal stuff we have experienced for years. If we are lucky, we will be a bit smarter. We will be growing some or all of our own food when possible. Our vehicles will be getting much better mileage and we will have some of our own power generating capability. Wind power, solar power, hydro-power or something that will reduce or eliminate our dependency on power companies. We will be just a little bit closer to self sufficient and making headway in that direction. Perhaps we will have finally learned that it isn't wise to be so dependent on factors beyond our control. Bicycling is a viable means of transportation and hopefully a lot more of us will be doing that. With luck a large portion of us have taken the recycling theme to heart and our household garbage is at a minimum as we recycle ourselve out from mountains of garbage into mounds and eventually nothing. We can do this. Something like this is no easy task and there are no shortcuts. It is up to us. Every journey requires a first step. I've taken mine, have you?
