We ALL know about safety glasses. We ALL know about understanding our tools and using them safely. We ALL know about using push sticks and keeping our fingers clear of the blades. How about considering some of the more common but overlooked safety issues? How do you stack your wood? An unstable wood rack can do severe damage should it come tumbling down. What about leaning your boards up against the wall? You know the ones I mean, the LONG ones that just don't seem to fit anyplace else or they are just easier to lean than to put on the wood rack. Well, I had an 8 foot 2 X 4 knock me in the head today because it was leaning, and not too securely I might add. Yes, it gave me a knot and I am thankful it wasn't a 2 X 12!!!!! I moved another board and without realizing it, I had unleashed this board for an assault against the side of my head. NO, it didn't hurt me...much. I have a small knot on my head and a little bit of wounded ego, but otherwise all is well. When you get lax, you WILL get bit. Be safe, practice shop safety, ALL the time.
