The scientist types are the ones that decided about the trees. The distinctions between hard and soft woods are based on leaf structure, not the wood itself. As a woodworker, we need to know a little bit more about wood than the average folks but we don’t need to know it all. If you are looking for an all knowing treatise on wood, you’ve come to the wrong place. There are tons of text books and references you can read that will tell you more than you ever wanted to know.
