OK, back to wood. The difference between grass and trees is lignin. Lignin is the glue that binds the fibers in wood and makes it woody. Grass has no lignin so it is not woody. Wood can be gotten from bushes and shrubs, at least in the technical aspect of things.
You don’t hear of too many people building Azalea wood chests or Croton armoires. That doesn’t mean it couldn’t be done. Wood in that regard is similar to gold, it is where you find it. Sometimes you find it in strange places. Small bushes and shrubs will only yield very small wood, suitable for accent wood at best. However, a wood turner might see a huge old rose bush with limbs big enough to turn pen bodies from. It could be a wood of choice, you wouldn’t know until you tried it. As a woodworker, keep an open mind about the wood you work. Some wood destined for the burn pile can be beautiful.
