As a tree the wood is a living and breathing organism. As wood it is no longer living but it is breathing. Wood is a hygroscopic material which means it is absorbing and releasing moisture to or from its environment. Hence, wood moves. Whatever your project is, this fact must be kept in mind. WOOD MOVES and when we neglect to allow for the movement the results can be disastrous.

Man has used wood from the very beginning of time. The biggest use has been for fuel.

Wood is used in our daily lives, our homes use it, most of our furniture has some kind of wood in it, and we make art with wood and toys for our children. Our lives are intertwined with wood. It’s sad that we waste so much of it.
