I needed to swap out my blade on the bandsaw today. The old blade was burning it's way through the cuts and was almost too dull to cut butter. Since I was going from a half inch blade to a three eighths blade, I figured I should tweak my tension some as well. The majority of the time I use half inch blades and I HAVE been know to forget to release tension on them. I assumed it would be a good time to adjust tension and do a bit of tweaking on the saw. I don't trust the tension gauge on the saw and use it only for a ballpark idea and then rely on thumping the blade to get the tension I want. With the new blade on and tension tweaked where i wanted it I did a little fine tuning of the guide wheels, adjusted the tracking and started sawing. The pleasure of a good cutting blade and saw is almost as good as catching a big catfish, just not as dramatic. I'm cutting out a replacement handle for another hand plane I picked up and I'm using a nice block of cherry for it. Should you decide to do something similar, it is easiest to do your drilling and counterboring while the block is square, THEN cut out the handle shape. Get out there and make some chips!!
