OK, so maybe yard fires is more appropriate in my case. A lot of my unusable bits and pieces get burned up in the firepit. I have a neighbor who gladly takes hardwood when I am offering that he takes camping with them in their trailer. I have long sense given up the foolishness of feeding my scraps to the garbage men. Building a fire with your off-cuts and those OCCASIONAL mistakes (measure twice, cut once) can be an enjoyable pastime. It gets even more enjoyable when you do some cooking over them. Again, a quick search online will yield more recipes than you can try in a years worth of fires. I still haven't managed a Dutch oven but I can be handy with a cast iron skillet. Cast iron skillets are found easily at yard sales and flea markets with prices i can afford, the Dutch ovens are not. Eventually, I will either find a Dutch oven or break down and buy one just so I can try some of those incredible recipes available for them. No my New Year's resolution was NOT to lose wieght, it was simply to NOT double in size by this years end. I like to eat so what better combination than an extension of my woodwork like feeding the fire i cook on? Go ahead, you know you want to, build a fire and cook over it.
