Buying a fixer-upper home during hunting season is just wrong. It is nearly a given that any repair needed is going to take you two to three times as long as you estimated. You will wind up spending more time making repairs than you will in the woods. I should have known better. Replacing wood floors can be a reasonably simple affair or a complete nightmare, depending on the floor and the damage. Herby Homeowner on this house assumed if one nail was good, six had to be better. Removing the old flooring was in tiny pieces after it broke away from all the nails. A few hour job took all day. The joists were all sound so there was nothing needed on this section of floor other than new floor. Tongue and groove plywood sheets proved to be a great buy and are easy to work with. Putting down the new floor went fairly well. It will still get some kind of surface treatment but progress is being made. The next floor is in the living room, a lot more floor. Removing the glued down laminate flooring was a chore with a long handled scraper and only revealed a sorry looking floor underneath. Yup, it will all be removed and replaced with ply. Sometimes, even when you win, you lose. Merry Christmas to all of you!
