OK, those of us nursing New Year party heads, aren't going to be receptive to the idea that NOW is the time to get busy for the year ahead. Devote a bit of time to planning your shop conquests in advance. Decide on the new joint you want to learn, the new projects you want to tackle and of course, the right time frame for building marketable projects. None of this takes a ton of time, don't make excuses, just do it. Write it all down and post it prominently in your shop, preferrably in a location where you will see it each and every time you enter the shop. My list is on the door going in. Just a tiny bit of prep can save you loads of time in the long run. How are you doing on the Valentine's Day stuff? Have you started on Easter? Yup, you must be ahead of the curve or you miss the game entirely. Now, sore heads and all, is the right time to plan. You can handle a pen and paper before the games come on, write it all down. PLAN for your success, this is YOUR year! Like they say, "those who fail to plan, plan to fail."
Pep talk is over. I doubt half of you will take it seriously anyway. The point is, you should have an idea of what you are doing before you ever enter your shop. You should know where you are going before you begin the trip. Even making gifts for the next year and not trying to make a buck or two, you need to get started and avoid the last minute rushes like last year had. When you are relaxed and not feeling rushed, you enjoy the work more. Woodworking is a great pastime and SHOULD be enjoyed. Happy New Year to you all, I hope it is your best year ever!!!
