Small shops have no room to spare. Maximizing your space in a small shop can seem like an exercise in futility. Creatively using all the ignored spaces can be true genius. If you use the tool grouping method to allow sharing tables or for work flow purposes, there are small spaces right there, in between the machines. Small rolling shelves can slip in between the machines and hold a variety of tools and what-not in space that would otherwise be lost. Fans can be mounted up high which allows the lower space to be used for other things. A shelf next to the door may be really narrow but, it can hold more stuff. Maximizing the space you have is no easy task in most shops but well worth the extra effort. Going up the walls is the only thing left when you have used up all the floor. Leaving room to work is a must do, don't over fill or you will have problems. Putting things too close is not a good idea and could easily be a hazard. Lighting, the kind that you can really see with, is another consideration. Overhead lighting and a few strategically placed spots can really improve your working world. Shelves high up on the walls, leaving room beneath for walking can also be a plus. Items that are seldom used can be stored high up with no problem. Utilizing every nook and cranny is a great way to make your shop work, regardless of how small it is.
