When you buy cheap, you get exactly what you pay for.

When you buy cheap, you get exactly what you pay for. The ongoing retexturing of my ceiling required me to have a long handle on my brush. The telescoping handle I had wouldn't work since it kept trying to telescope or retract at the WORST possible times. I ran down to my favorite home improvement place and opted for a CHEAP wooden handle, one with an obvious joint in the middle. I have been using it for a couple of days. Now, don't kid yourself, a younger person would probably walk right on through all this retexturing and knock it out pretty quick. Since I am not a younger person, this is going to take me a long time before i finish.
The normal aches and pains of getting older get emphasised when you are working overhead and have a lot of shoulder motion going on. Anyway, I am doggedly keeping at it, managing about a 4 foot by 6 foot section at a time. I performed my normal section this morning and just a wee bit extra. I took the brush out and applied the hose to clean it. Squatting down to ensure I got everything good and clean I forgot that I'm not really a kid playing in the water about the time I lost my balance. The handle whipped out to steady me like a cane, unfortunately my rotund form was entirely too much for the handle. The joint gave way sending me sprawling into the yard. I recovered as quickly as my older body would allow, glanced around to see how many of the neighbors were laughing and finished up my brush cleaning. I took minimal time on the finishing up and disappeared into the house without missing a beat. A valuable lesson has been learned here, cheap tools aren't always a good buy. Any tool used for somethng it wasn't designed for can hurt you, and finally, if you are an older gent you might be well advised to clean your tools in the BACK yard, so you are quite as visible unless of course, you LIKE to amuse your neighbors!
