Before you can tear down a wall, you need to make sure all your stuff isn't on it. In my case a coffee cup collection had to go.
As seen above, the removal of the cups has begun and the cups are going right to the dishwasher where they will be cleaned so they will be ready to go on display again as soon as they have a place.
The coffee cup shelves are removed and soon the wall demoltion will begin from the back side. Starting from the back is my attempt to keep the majority of the dust from entering the main house.
Most of the drywall has been removed, exposing insulation and studs. The easiest way to remove drywall is bash and tear, bash it with the hammer then tear off chunks with your hands. It is dusty, dirty work.
A few studs remain but, the hallway is now open. Now the fun stuff can begin! Off to the right is a tiny hall and doorway. The doorway will become a built in bookcase with a linen closet built in behind it. The doorway will be totally gone and the house will become one house again rather than two.
The doorway has been boxed in and rough sawn cedar slabs have been cut for shelves. It still needs paint and trim but progress is good. On the opposite side, the linen closet is beginning to take shape. My smarter half is doing a great job on it.
The conversion will be a slow process but well worth it. Not only will we pick up considerably more space but I come out with a "Hobby Room"! This whole hobby room concept should prove to be interesting since I have hobby stuff stashed all over the house and out in the shed. I don't think the room will be big enough! Currently, I am planning to put my old radios (tube variety), clocks (mechanical wind), and stained glass stuff in there. After that, I will fill in any remaining space with additional goodies.
