Patience is a virtue. The spirals can be laid out with masking tape, then excess material can be removed. Removal methods vary fom die grinders to routers to chisels. Lots of ways to get there from here. The crucial aspect is finishing, lots of sanding for good looks.

This is fairly easy to do and there are some great books on it. Try Amazon
