Every so often I get fired up and make a batch of stuff, sell most of it, and stash the rest. Sometimes I will give this stuff away to folks I happen to meet or deal with. A pen that I had made wound up in the hands of a nurse in the doctor office. She got it because she was so friendly to a grumpy old guy like me. I appreciated how well she did her job and especially how cheerful she was. The pen was in my pocket since i had been using it and I passed it on to her. I told her I had made it and wanted her to have it. She was really pleased, I was pleased. I walked away and forgot about it. This scenario took place about a year ago and had long since parted ways with my memory. I got a phone call and it was a guy looking to have a wine cellar built. No, I wasn't expecting the call and no, I don't normally build stuff like that. I couldn't help myself but to ask how the guy had come to be calling me? The pen, long forgotten by me, was still very much in use and was on duty as a sales rep for me. The plans for the wine cellar are being sent to me. I doubt I will take the job, I WILL look it over and consider it. That pen cost me a few bucks in parts and a little piece of time. This job if I were to take it would be worth a whole bunch of those pens. It's funny how things work out.
