I can admit that I'm a bit of a tool fanatic and I REALLY enjoy my toys. I went for many, many years with just one router in my shop and I managed OK. As the complexity of my work grew, so did my assortment of routers. I have two "beaters" which are Ryobi made and they handle the assorted miscellaneous routing chores. My "old faithful" could also be called old yellow since it is an ancient Dewalt that is used for repetition for decorative edge treatments. If I am going to use the same treatment on a lot of footage, I tweak in the Dewalt and once it is set, it stays set. The big gun in my shop is a Hitachi which has all the brute power I ever need for the things I do. It swings the big nasty bits and gets the really difficult chores.
OK, I have 4 routers in my shop. EACH of them has a purpose and is used accordingly. Could I do with less? Sure. What fun would that be?
