The holidays are coming! Take a hint from your local stores, it is never too early to start working towards the holidays! If you start now you can build an assortment of stuff to sell for the holiday season. Take a gander at what is being sold and you can come up with ideas of your own. Turned wood pens do well for me around the holidays. I simply turn and assemble a variety and sell what i can, the left overs will carry over to next year or be given as gifts during the year.

Themed items for the holidays seem to do well. A lot of the cutesy stuff sells well and if you've got a bit of talent for painting you can jazz up what you make. I don't do a lot of cutesy but I know others who do. If the object is making money, go with what works for you.

Wood toys do well as they seem to bring on a nostalgia that is appreciated at this time of year. Wood trains, automobiles, airplanes, and puzzles are all standby items that seem to be fairly consistent every year.

The kicker for me is usually wooden boxes. I build an assortment of sizes, shapes, and patterns. I have taken special requests but sometimes these aren't worth the aggrevation. A particular 1957 Chevy, 3 d box comes to mind that nearly drove me insane. Iwas so glad to finally finish it I forgot to take a picture. It is just a painful memory. Keeping your designs simple means you can crank them out if you need to and not tie up too much time in any one box. Time per item will make or break you so time management must be very much on your mind if you hope to make a profit.

NOW is the time to be building like mad so you can get your own piece of the holiday pie. Even if you aren't looking for that slice of pie, the gifts you are making need to be in the works if you are going to get them done in time! Build for the holidays! It is a woodie thing. Get out there and make holiday chips!!!
